The Observer Hodge Photographic Award 2004
Observer Hodge In association with Olympus /////
The Observer Hodge Photographic Award brings together some of the brightest young photographers in the country, in order to champion new talent breaking into the notoriously difficult arena of photojournalism.
The award is open to photographers under the age of 30, and was first established in 1986, in the memory of the late photographer David Hodge, who died as a result of injuries sustained while covering the Brixton riots, when he was 29 years old.
The Observer has an unrivalled reputation for its use of photojournalism, and, through the award, has been instrumental in launching the careers of young photographers. The judging panel, which this year included Kate Adie, Bob Carlos Clarke, and Juergen Teller, has selected work which either demonstrates a sensitive interaction with challenging subject, or which captures the everyday in an arresting way.
