topography of fear Do you keep an eye out at night on street corners? Do you feel insecure if someone walks behind you? Do women choose different walking routes and strategies compared to men? What kind of influence does this have on our daily routines? I am interested in the historic layers within landscape and the values that are added to landscape and space. On the fringes of certainty, and apparent safety of space, exist grey areas and possibilities of threat, danger and violence. These uncertainties are manifested in the common use of safety and surveillance equipment in our lives. Instead of sociological processes my object is space, which is full of possibilities. The menace could become a reality. We are part of a network of safety, insecurity and menace. A passer-by could become an eyewitness or a victim. The basis of my work has been the concept of mise-en scène - scenic emptiness. Venue: City Art Gallery |
