Reflections of war
This exhibition represents The Guardian s extensive coverage of the Iraq
War with an emphasis on images which capture the effects upon civilians
caught up in it. Four photographers were sent to the Gulf, one embedded
with the army and three unilaterals . Equipped with cameras, satellite
phones and laptops, spanning all of Iraq, they sent back an unique and
comprehensive study of the conflict, from the activities of the armed
forces, to the realties of civilian life during war.
Sean Smith
is a Guardian staff photographer. He was in Baghdad with writer
Suzanne Goldenberg from January 2003 till May 2003 covering the last
days of Saddam's regime, the war and the start of the aftermath.
Michael Walter
is a freelance photographer and partner in the Troika Picture
Agency. He covered the conflict in northern Iraq with Guardian journalist
Luke Harding.
Dan Chung
is a Guardian staff photographer. He was embedded with the British
Army s 2 Close Support Regiment, Royal Logistic Corps (RLC). During the
war he covered the activities of the unit and the local population they
encountered in the Basra area of Iraq.
Paul O'Driscoll
is a freelance photographer based in Belgium. He covered the war for The
Guardian working alongside journalist James Meek following the US Marines
from Kuwait through Iraq to Baghdad.
