The Observer Hodge Photographic Award was set up in 1986 in memory of David Hodge, a young photojournalist who died aged 29, as a result of injuries received whilst covering the Brixton riots. The award is open to student, amateur and professional photojournalists under 30, whose work falls within the boundary of photographic reportage including photojournalism, documentary photography and portraiture. This year’s award was judged by, Wolfgang Tillmans, photographer; Helena Christensen, photographer and model; Kate Bush, senior programmer of the Photographers’ Gallery; Roger Alton, editor of The Observer; Greg Whitmore, picture editor, The Observer and Allan Jenkins, editor, Observer Magazine.
