art and in particular documentary photography. He is a Professor of History
of Art at the University of Cape Town. He has written on the work of
William Kentridge, David Goldblatt and Gideon Mendel. In 2002 he curated

John Fleetwood
Since 2002 the photographer John Fleetwood has been the Head of the Market
Photo Workshop in Johannesburg. During his tenure he has developed the
Workshop so it connects to the South African government’s plan
for the development of the cultural industries. The Workshop offers courses
on the technical nature of the media and a wider understanding of the
use of images in society. The Workshop takes over 100 students a year
with the aim that when they finish their course they can establish themselves
as professional photographers.
