Market Photo Workshop - Back and Forth

Market Photo Workshop has established itself as an important training institution for South African photographers who otherwise would have no access to photography.

The Workshop was initiated by the renowned photographer David Goldblatt in1987 with the aim of making visual literacy skills and practical training in photography accessible to young black photographers who were excluded from formal training institutions during the Apartheid era.

Since 1994 the Market Photo Workshop has successfully adapted to the changes and challenges in the new democracy. Back and Forth is group project undertaken by Workshop participants that looked at the trade of goods between South Africa and other African countries, in particular Zimbabwe.

The economic growth of South Africa and the economic collapse of Zimbabwe has created an growing and extended market between these two neighboring countries.

Back and Forth was a collaboration between Market Photo Workshop and the International Organisation for Migration
