David LurieBorn in Cape Town, David Lurie now lives in London, but returns regularly to his home country. He studied economics, politics and philosophy in South Africa. Self-taught in photography, he began undertaking documentary projects in 1990. His work has been widely published in magazines and exhibited in galleries around the world. Over a four-year period starting in 2001 he worked on a project in Cape Town using Table Mountain as the central location in which to investigate the life of the city. From
township
to shopping mall, from beach to graveyard, Lurie takes us on a trip
into a very segregated city, in which the mountain casts its shadow
over all
its inhabitants.
