Veronica Caperon: Signs of the Times
Do our signs reveal who we are, our pre-occupations and prejudices?
Whilst travelling around the world Veronica Caperon has captured
the minutiae of our environment in the signs displayed to tell us
what to do or not do. This projected series of images is a show
of wit that examines the priorities and peculiarities of the various
cultures she has visited. In France dog owners are appealed to through
a sense of civic responsibility, whilst in Malta, Salvation is a
one way street!
Veronica Caperon has maintained an interest in photography
since childhood in 1992, she decided to train professionally and
developed photographic work as part of her career. She is senior
partner of Red House Associates, and carries out press, advertising
and documentary photography for clients which include companies
in manufacturing and retail as well as universities, colleges, schools
and local authorities. Following extensive travel through the western
U.S.A. in the 1980s and 1990s, she wrote and produced 'An American
Journey', a photo-documentary about the contrasts found in pursuit
of the American Dream which has since been exhibited at a number
of venues in the Midlands. In 1994 she was commissioned by the Rector
of Edgmond to photograph and report on life in the village. This
has resulted in a documentary of events which shows how a rural
community maintains its traditions and comes to terms with the prospect
of the next millennium. This has also been exhibited around the
region. She is currently working with a number of communities for
the Community Council of Shropshire, enabling children and non-professional
photographers develop their skills and photograph their community.
Her work is increasingly in the field of social documentary where
she combines both her writing and photographic skills.
