Hillbrow is a neighbourhood of Johannesburg, SA, characterised by its unsympathetic common media and suburban representation. A representation that over the past decade has helped cement the downfall of the city centre.

In this work, Ilan Godfrey gained intimate access to the area, to present a portrait of Hillbrow that goes beyond the stereotypes, amid the social and structural decay of its surroundings. The result is a gentle and articulate inquisition into a regeneration programme aimed at restoring hope for
this once popular suburb.
