NEW DIRECTOR FOR HEREFORD PHOTOGRAPHY FESTIVAL

Paul Wombell, a leading figure in European photography, has been appointed the first full time Director of the Hereford Photography Festival.  He brings with him over twenty years’ experience and the legacy of being the only person to have been Director of two of England’s foremost photographic galleries, the Impressions Gallery in York and The Photographers’ Gallery, London.

Richard Heatly, Chairman of the Hereford Photography Festival’s Trustees said, “We are delighted that Paul has agreed to become Director of the Festival.  He brings an unparalleled range of international contacts and unsurpassed knowledge of contemporary photography to Hereford, and this will be just what the festival needs to take it forward into the next stage of its development.  With the strong support of the Arts Council and our other key funders including The Elmley Foundation, I am confident that Paul will, in a short time, gain for the Hereford Photography Festival a huge increase in both international and local recognition.  He has  got lots of very exciting ideas and we can look forward to interesting times ahead for the festival”.

A keen supporter of the Hereford Photography Festival, which he opened in 2003, Paul Wombell said, “I am very pleased to be taking on the role of the first full-time director of the Hereford Photography Festival.  It is an honour to be offered this position at such an important time in the history of the Festival with many new opportunities to be taken.  I will make sure that the Festival will promote the city of Hereford as a place to visit, the place to meet great photographers and a place to see amazing exhibitions.  Over the years to come, you will see the Festival develop an unique programme of events catering for both local and national audiences.  The annual Hereford Photography Festival will become the place to be seen”..
