Tom Hunter, a John Kobal award winner, is interested in people and their communities. His work is concerned with the representation of people that do not live in traditional communities or have a traditional way of life, and therefore are generally represented in negative ways in the media. In doing this work he seeks to create beautiful images with a political message.

The Travellers series was created when he was living in a bus on the road for a year, meeting and living with other travellers into the music and festival scene. Investing considerable time in getting to know his subjects, Hunter portrays them as they would prefer to be seen by the outside world - in the simple domestic interiors of their converted vehicles - and with composition that wills us to relate and leave our prejudices behind.
