Paul Hill has had an ongoing interest
in his pets, documenting their lives and what they eat and what they
kill. In "Pets Don't Buy Things" he uses a sequence of larger
than life colour still life images of pet accessories to examine the
way in which a photograph is read as "the thing itself",
and yet can resonate with meanings and intimations, which confront
the apparent objectivity of the image. This work is a metaphor for
aspects of modern life that focus on image and marketing, working
in a similar way to his "Displacements" work, that offered
an epitaph for the Thatcher years. |
